Our mission is to ensure

all californians

have access to high quality, affordable health care

As a nonprofit health plan, we are driven by a singular goal: to fulfill our mission. By doing so, we improve the quality of life for millions of Californians.

Our goal is clear: create a healthcare system in which all Californians can access the high-quality care they deserve at a price they can afford. It’s an ambitious goal, and one we are uniquely positioned to achieve.

Good Corporate Citizen

We have to pursue our mission in a way that is ethical and fair, because how we get there is just as important as when. That means doing the right thing, acting with integrity, being emblematic of our values, treating employees well, conserving natural resources and strengthening our company’s connection with communities.

Good Steward of Our Resources

Unlike for-profit health plans, Blue Shield does not have to generate returns to shareholders. We have to use our resources in a way that furthers access to affordable, high-quality health care. We do so by investing wisely, being good stewards of our members’ money and embracing a culture of affordability. We also give substantially to the Blue Shield of California Foundation, an essential partner in advancing our mission.
